MEMBERSHIP

What is the difference between The Supper Club and The Reading Residency?

The Supper Club is our intimate, application-based membership centered around beautifully curated dinners, immersive book-inspired experiences and deeper in-person connection.

The Reading Residency is our open literary membership designed for women who want to read alongside Bread & Butter, join the conversation and connect with our community from wherever they are in the world.

Can I be a member of both?

Supper Club members receive access to The Reading Residency as part of their membership, so there is no need to maintain both memberships separately.

Reading Residency members can join the literary community without being members of The Supper Club.

Do both memberships read the same books?

Yes. Our community reads along with Bread & Butter's current book selections, giving members across both experiences opportunities to join the conversation around the stories we're reading.

Do I have to apply to join The Reading Residency?

No. Unlike The Supper Club, The Reading Residency does not require an application.

Do I have to live in Detroit to join?

Not at all.

The Reading Residency is designed as a growing national literary community, so you can join and participate from wherever you live.

Our in-person Reading Residency gatherings are currently held in Detroit, with opportunities to gather in additional cities planned as the community grows.

What are the in-person Reading Residency gatherings?

Think of them as a scheduled book date.

Reading Residency gatherings are relaxed, low-pressure opportunities to come together, grab a drink, settle in with the current selection and spend intentional time reading alongside other women.

There may be conversation before or after, but you don't need to prepare an analysis or arrive with the book finished since these are scheduled when book selections are initially released. Just bring your book and come as you are.

Are Reading Residency gatherings included in my membership?

Yes. Bread & Butter-hosted Reading Residency gatherings are included as part of Reading Residency membership.

Because venues may have limited capacity, gatherings may require advance RSVP and are subject to availability.

What if I don't live near an in-person Reading Residency gathering?

That's okay. The Reading Residency was intentionally created to extend beyond our in-person gatherings.

You'll still be able to participate in the literary community and digital touchpoints from wherever you're reading.

As Bread & Butter grows, we look forward to creating opportunities for Residency members to gather in more cities.

Does Reading Residency membership include Supper Club dinners?

No.

Reading Residency membership does not include admission to Bread & Butter Supper Club dinners, trips, member gift experiences or other Supper Club-exclusive programming unless specifically stated.

Will Reading Residency members get access to movie screenings and book-to-screen events?

Availability, capacity and admission will vary by experience, and details will always be shared with members in advance.
